Photo Challenge #FO5photo Day 10

Published November 30, 2014 by thefamilyof5

The theme for today is ‘Childhood’.

Our Christmas Shelf Elf (Shiny Heart, as she was named in December 2012) reappeared today, as if by magic, she is also sporting a new and very fashionable knitted red jumper…….

It took over 2 hours for her to be spotted from her shelf top hiding place by the breakfast table!

Middle Girl: *shreiks There’s an Elf in the kitchen, she’s wearing a jumper!

Big Girl: It’s magic isn’t it, she must be wearing a jumper because it’s cold outside..

Baby Girl: So we had breakfast and didn’t see her, how did that happen?!

Keeping the childhood magic of Christmas alive in the Familyof5 household today…………

The theme for today is ‘Daily Routine’.

There’s so much I could write about here, our entire lives are built around a continuous routine, the girls thrive on the familiar and predictable.

Our school day mornings run like clockwork, everyone knows what they have to do and how long they have to do it, we’ve never been late for school, evenings are the same too!

Weekends are a little more varied as our day time activities vary (whilst remaining familiar), however our ‘get up’ and ‘bedtime’ (whilst different from school days) routines are always the same!

I loath routine, it bores me, I’d love more spontaneity and unpredictability but I do also appreciate the ‘calmness’ that it brings the girls, and in-turn all of us!

However, if there was one part of our routine that I could change, it would definitely be Saturday’s ‘school uniform preparing’, soooooooooo boring!

15 white shirts, 6 cardigans, 6 dresses, 15 pairs of socks, a whole lotta boring!

The theme for today is ‘favourite’.

I’ve really struggled with today’s theme I have so many favourites, places, foods, perfume, authors etc etc the list goes on. I really wanted to stick with the focus on ‘self care’ though and some how a bottle of Tresor, or mashed potato didn’t seem to hit the mark.

Then it hit me…………

The thing that’s been in my hand all day, the thing that’s in my hand every day actually, the thing that gives me the opportunity to connect with other adopters or even just adults in an instant, the thing that offers me a welcome opportunity to ‘zone out’, to search for answers at times of confusion (or homework) and my connection to MrFamilyof5 during the day …………

Photo Challenge #FO5photo Day 6

The theme for the photo challenge today is ‘Something that makes you smile’

When I was a child I longed for a sister. I even dressed my younger brother up as a girl once, he was about 4 or 5 at the time I think, he didn’t seem to mind but destroyed all the photographic evidence a few years later! 😉

My mum remarried when I was about 14,  and just over a year later my 2nd little baby brother came along, he was adorable, never cried, always giggled and being a teenage girl I doted on him, he’s now in his 20’s and a bit less adorable 😉

When I was about 21 I moved out of my parents house, it was around the same time my little blonde blue eye’d sister arrived in the world,  she was the total opposite of my baby brother, she cried, a lot, in fact she screamed almost all the time (at least that’s how I remember her) and she had the attitude of a teenager from age 2, I dreaded being asked to baby sit, she was such hard work!

That little blonde haired girl is now a beautifully matured young lady of 17, she is amazingly kind hearted and generous. She has been my saving grace many times, she’s accompanied us on holidays and helped with the girls, made me smile when I’ve felt sad, baby sat when I’ve needed a break, she’s my best friend, I love her and I’m proud to call her my sister. When she is old enough, she will also be the person we appoint legal guardian to our children, (should one ever be required). She’s come a long way from that dinner throwing, tantrumming, stubborn little madam that shouted ‘NO’ so much!

She bought me this bracelet last year, she has a matching one, it sits on my bedside table and is the last thing I see each evening before I close my eyes. No matter how bad my day has been, or how sad I feel, it always makes my heart smile.

If you’d like to join in with this photo challenge, or find out what its all about, go and read ‘Day 1’ and then get started yourself, Its all in aid of ‘Self Care’!

Photo Challenge #FO5photo day 5

Published November 25, 2014 by thefamilyof5

Today’s theme is ‘something you wore’.

I wore a smile all day yesterday even though I was feeling under the weather. I made something that I’ve never been brave enough to do before.

I made ‘Stew’, I know it doesn’t sound like much but, those who know me will know how little I cook. In fact, during the approval process to adopt our social worker even suggested I take lessons because we literally just ate out ALL the time! I’m still not a great cook, I can follow a recipe, just, but only if it’s really basic! Thankfully the girls like ‘kiddy’ food which generally comes straight out of a packet and into the oven for 25-30minutes, and I like burnt toast and soup (MrFO5 will eat anything, literally!), so my lack of culinary flare has never been a real issue!

I do love beef Stew though, and you don’t tend to be able to buy it ready made in supermarkets, probably because they figure ‘any fool can make it’.  I’m not sure where or when I first ate it, but I know I loved it! Everyone has always told me how easy it is to make, ‘just chuck it all in a pot and leave it’ they say, but I’ve never been quite brave enough, I mean what if I ruined it, the risks were too great!?!

However, with my focus firmly on ‘self care’ I decided to give it a go (with lots of advice and googling), so what if it was awful, we could just order take away, I reasoned.

But we didn’t need to order in, because I turned this……….

In to this………..

It was amazing! (even if I do say so myself)

I wore the biggest proudest smile I’ve ever worn!

Photo Challenge #FO5photo day 4

Published November 24, 2014 by thefamilyof5

Today is day 4 of the #FO5photo photo challenge.  I started it to help me focus on ‘self care’, something us parents are really rubbish at, me in particular!

See day 1 if you’d like details of how you can join in, I really hope you do, the number of people that have joined in on twitter has been amazing and I’ve really felt supported!

So, day 4, the theme is ‘Letterbox’!!? I know right?! Letterbox, what on earth!  Anyway, I’ve pondered and wondered on how I could incorporate this theme with a focus on ‘self care’. I came up with online shopping!

I love it when the post man brings me ‘christmas/birthday/just because’ goodies, I especially love it when he brings things for me!

Totally staged, but you get the idea :)
